DRIVER/HANDYMAN

(Inclusive remuneration package of R243 486.00 per annum)

The purpose of this position is to provide secure and timely driving services to transport merchandise, staff, documents, and run work-related errands. This position reports to the Senior Accountant: Finance and Facilities Management.

Duties: Ensure the provision of driver services to transport staff and executive members, documents, merchandise, and run official errands timeously. Transport products, materials, and staff securely to areas here they are needed.  Load/unload the Electoral Commission’s merchandise.  Accurately complete all paperwork related to transportation of employees and or merchandise.  Ensure safekeeping of products and staff at all times. Respond to enquiries timeously. Ensure vehicles are kept clean, safe and in working order. Identify faults on vehicles and report accidents and damage to vehicles timeously.   Provide receipts for all expenses or maintenance incurred on vehicles.  Keep travel log to record areas travelled to, travel time, and work hours. Inform supervisor/clients regarding change in route, delivery and or pick schedule.  Perform other duties including acquisition of utensils, dropping and picking supplies, getting meals, and running errands.

Carry out indoor general maintenance and cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and renovations, e.g. replace light bulbs, tighten cabinetry or hardware and assemble prefabricated furniture.

Service equipment in and around buildings, e.g., facilitate cleaning out of the air vents, replacing any air or heating filters or schedule repairs, if needed.

Test alarms and other security systems (where authorised and trained to do so), report on areas that require repair, and facilitate making of the repairs. Repair, or facilitate the repair of, kitchen appliances, vehicles, computers, phone or intercom systems and landscaping gear.

Basic Requirements:  The successful candidate must be in possession of a Matric (Grade 12) or junior certificate (Grade 10) plus 3 years relevant working experience. Have basic knowledge of operational protocols and field of work. Good office administration skills.  Good sense of direction.  Knowledge and awareness of the Free State province. Ability to read maps and knowledge and understanding of a GPS tracker.  Good verbal and written communication skills. Good organizing skills and computer literacy.  The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and must be prepared to travel extensively.
