South Deep Cadets currently enrolled on the Yes4Youth programme with at least one year’s practical work exposure are hereby invited to apply for permanent employment as a South Deep Production Assistant in our mining department. A Production Assistant is accountable for providing safe general assistance and support work for underground production activities and to ensure the continuous maintenance and improvement of operational safety practice and good housekeeping standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric/Grade 12 or similar NQF Level 4 equivalent
- Participation in and completion of at least one year’s duration on the South Deep Yes4Youth Cadet programme
- At least one year’s experience in a mining environment
- Secure full Gold Fields Security and Related Occupational Screening
- Be declared medically fit for the role and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre, comprising of various tests to be administered in order to determine levels of fitness and or medical suitability; and
- Pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test
Key Competencies:
- Established personal safety delivery record
- Strong inter and intra-team collaboration skills
- Ability to speak (communicate), read and write in English
- Established problem-solving and cognitive ability skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in the various operational Safety, Health, Environmental and risk campaigns
- Consistent application of safe work practices according to set standards and procedures
- Report any potential or prevailing safety, health, environmental and/or risk conditions, incidents or accidents to immediate supervisor for correction
- Diligently and safely perform operational tasks as assigned in relation to cleaning/housekeeping and support activities in working areas towards the achievement of set production targets
- Perform any other tasks and/or activities necessary to meet the operational requirements of South Deep
