Duties and Responsibilities

Upon successful completion of the programme, trainees may be permanently appointed to carry out roles such as:

  • Participating in city-wide crime prevention operations
  • Supporting public safety and law enforcement efforts
  • Carrying firearms and wearing JMPD uniform
  • Responding to emergencies and maintaining law and order under pressure

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the JMPD police trainee programme, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens aged 18–35
  • Have a valid Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4)
  • Hold a valid Code B Driver’s Licence (no learner’s)
  • Reside within Johannesburg (original proof of address required)
  • Be medically and physically fit (submit a full medical certificate)
  • Be proficient in English and willing to carry a firearm
  • Have no criminal record or civil judgements related to fraud/corruption
  • Pass biometric, vetting, and pre-training fitness assessments
