Murray & Roberts invites applications for the Learner Charge Hand Diamond Drilling position based at Bentley Park near Carletonville, Gauteng. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a strong work ethic and experience in underground operations to gain hands-on training while contributing to one of South Africa’s leading engineering contractors.
Job Purpose
The position aims to train and develop suitable candidates to competently perform the duties of a Charge Hand Diamond Driller. Successful applicants will receive both practical on-site training and theoretical instruction through the M&RC Training Academy.
Key Responsibilities
As a Learner Charge Hand, you will be responsible for:
- Leading a team of general workers while ensuring safety and efficiency
- Operating diamond drilling equipment under supervision
- Completing on-the-job training and theory modules
- Engaging proactively with facilitators, coaches, and site assessors
- Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, policies, and procedures
- Identifying and reporting safety risks promptly
- Maintaining accurate administrative and reporting standards
- Practicing effective team supervision in line with M&RC values
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 equivalent
- Trade Certificate or Team Leader Certificate
- Diamond Drill Operator technical skills certificate (or similar)
- Valid EB Driver’s License (advantageous)
- Competent A & B certificates
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of underground Team Leader experience (if certified)
- Advantageous: Experience in Diamond Drilling Operations with a Trade Certificate
- Strong understanding of drilling equipment and procedures
- Ability to independently complete issue-based risk assessments
