About the Military Skills Development System

The MSDS is a structured, two-year voluntary service program designed to train South African youth in military and technical skills. Successful candidates receive world-class military training, with the potential to continue full-time service or transition into civilian life with valuable qualifications.

SANDF Application forms Requirements

Before applying, ensure you meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen (no dual citizenship)
  • Aged 18–22 with Grade 12 or N3; or up to 26 years with a completed 3-year tertiary qualification
  • Medically and physically fit for service
  • No criminal record
  • Preferably single
  • Willing to relocate and deploy locally or abroad
  • Must meet all additional SANDF selection standards
  • Must be recommended by a selection board
